LIFE IN LIMBO

Can you enjoy a hotel with a sea view if you have previously fled the #Taliban? In August 2021, a first group of Afghan refugees arrived in #Tirana. Almost two thousand of them moved to the “Rafaelo”, a #hotel on the Albanian coast, in the following months. The #journalist @fran_tschinderle , born 1994 in Villach / #Austria and the #photographer @ilirtsouko, born 1990 in #Albania, accompanied the people for one year: Students, civil servants, businessmen and basketball players. Tschinderle researched the hotel’s history for her #book on Albania, a volume of #reportage published in German in March 2022. Tsouko documented life at the hotel photographically, including for @zeitmagazin and the @washingtonpost. Both share an office in Tirana and work together on #magazine #stories and #radio #features on the #Balkan region. On October 11, 2022, they will present their work at the @tullaculture. @fran_tschinderle Franziska Tschinderle will present her book, which will be read in both German and Albanian. Tsouko will #exhibit his #visual work about Rafaelo Hotel. Discussion afterwards with the possibility of participation in English, German and Albanian.
